Department of Fisheries and Environmental Sciences
Introduction to the Fisheries Engineering Group:
The Fisheries Engineering Group of Lorestan University was established in 2017 with the aim of training specialists in the fields of environment and fisheries by admitting students at the undergraduate level. This group currently operates with 3 faculty members specializing in environmental science and 3 faculty members specializing in fisheries. The two mentioned fields of study have been developed based on the country's macro policies, national and global needs, and new topics and technologies, and their curriculum includes theoretical, laboratory, and field courses in various fields related to the field. In defining the course outlines of both fields, efforts are made to ensure that students, after graduation, can engage in useful and effective scientific activities in private and governmental centers related to their field of specialization and, by using the knowledge gained, can contribute to the advancement of this branch of science. This group currently admits approximately 20 students each year in the field of Environmental Science and Engineering and 20 students in the field of Fisheries Science and Engineering at the undergraduate level.
Course Duration and Educational System:
The course duration and the form of the educational system for the undergraduate courses of both Environmental Science and Engineering and Fisheries Science and Engineering are based on the approvals of the Supreme Council for Planning and Educational Regulations, which is 4 years and is offered in a semester-credit system. Each semester is approximately 16 weeks of instruction, and the courses of each semester are offered in the form of theoretical and practical courses based on the planning of the educational group and course topics. One of the characteristics of these two fields, considering their close relationship with living organisms and their dependence on environmental conditions, is the emphasis on practical courses, which is aimed at providing specialized courses in a theoretical-practical manner.
Number of Course Units:
The number of course units for the undergraduate program in Environmental Science and Engineering is 140 units, as follows:
-General Courses: 22 units
-Basic Science Courses: 30 units
-Specialized Courses: 78 units
-Elective Courses: 10 units
The number of course units for the undergraduate program in Fisheries Science and Engineering is 139 units, as follows:
-General Courses: 22 units
-Basic Science Courses: 35 units
-Specialized Courses: 73 units
Elective Courses: 6 units
-Project: 3 units
Role, Abilities, and Competencies of Graduates:
Graduates of these two fields will possess the following abilities and competencies:
- Acquiring basic knowledge and increasing motivation and awareness of their field of specialization
- Developing and cultivating the power to understand specialized concepts and basic principles in a scientific and systematic manner
- Increasing the ability and competence to determine and apply appropriate methods for solving specialized problems in service centers
- Gaining skills in preparing, implementing, and supervising the execution of applied executive and research projects
Graduates of these two fields, considering the knowledge and skills they acquire, will be able to provide educational and research services by collaborating in higher education centers. Also, graduates of this field will be able to work as researchers in research institutions to conduct research in their field of specialization. Various governmental organizations are among the centers where graduates of these fields will be able to provide services. On the other hand, graduates of these two fields, considering the skills they acquire practically in specialized workshops, will have the necessary capabilities to collaborate with consulting engineers in the country. In addition, graduates of each field can manage the specialized departments of organizations, institutions, governmental and private organizations.
Conditions and Regulations for Admission to the Course:
In accordance with the regulations and regulations of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
Future Plans:
Considering the needs of the executive and research sectors of the country on the one hand and the definition of new scientific and executive topics and fields in the field of environment and fisheries, this group intends to attract students in the coming years in postgraduate programs (Master's and Doctoral) in various fields with careful and principled planning. It is hoped that with the efforts of the authorities and the provision of the necessary facilities and equipment, we will achieve this important goal as soon as possible.
